Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine
Oriental Medicine utilizes five ancient healing methods in the goal of improving health. In addition to acupuncture and its adjunctive techniques, a treatment also may consist of bodywork, diet & lifestyle counseling, the instruction of East Asian exercise techniques and Chinese herbal medicine. Oriental medicine is a holistic and patient-centered method of healing, where both patent and practitioner must work together to achieve results. Oriental medicine uses the body’s own tendency towards health to its advantage. Eastern medicine has been in existence and use for thousands of years. It has a proven track record of success in treating a wide range of conditions, from pain to internal disease.
So what is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a treatment modality in which a highly trained practitioner inserts very fine needles into the body at various points. These points are carefully selected based on the individual patient and Oriental medicine theory. The goal of acupuncture is to help rebalance and rebuild the body’s normal physiological systems, so that disease can be eradicated and healing can be attained.Acupuncture involves more than the use of needles. Other techniques, such as moxibustion (the burning of an herb for the purpose of heating and area on the body), fire cupping, microbleeding and gua sha may be used when appropriate.
Does Acupuncture hurt?
The insertion of acupuncture needles can cause some mild discomfort, but it is not a painful process and patients find that the benefits far outweigh the sensation. In fact, most people find acupuncture treatments enjoyable and relaxing.
Why would I choose Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine?
Oriental medicine is not meant to replace the care of a physician. In fact, it works best when used in conjunction with other treatment modalities. The methods used carry far less side effects than the conventional treatments of pharmaceuticals and surgery. An AOM practitioner will evaluate many aspects of a patient’s life and help facilitate changes that will produce lasting results.
Oriental medicine treats the person and not just the symptom.
